Alcohol and drugs, addiction, dependence and recovery
I have been actively interested in aspects of addiction and addictive behaviours for many years. In this time, I have seen the problems escalate to levels unimaginable a few years ago and at the same time seen successive governments appearing to totally misunderstand the true nature of addiction and cutting availability resources accordingly.
I have also witnessed the devastation that addictions and dependences to substances and behaviours can have upon families and friends of users. I have a special interest in working with Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA).
I do not claim therapy can ‘cure’ addiction as such but I do believe engaging with a therapist can significantly support the process of recovery and rehabilitation from a wide range of addictions and addictive behaviours which if left unaddressed can destroy the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of all those it encounters.
I have experience working with a wide range of addictions and behaviours including alcohol, drugs, solvents, gambling, on-line porn and video gaming, sex and spending. I am also experienced in supporting people working a 12 step programme.
